Today, two types of chips are used in products with Flash memories. One kind is an affordable multi-level cell chip (MLC) that saves two bits of information in each cell and is not really suited for streaming applications. The second is a single-level cell (SLC) memory that makes up for the slightly higher price by offering about 20% more performance and a lifecycle that is 10 times longer.

Unlike a lot of its competitors, PRETEC relies exclusively on SLC-NAND memory because the overwhelming number of applications for Flash products stand to gain from fast data streaming.
